Domain Age Basics
Welcome to the first page explaining the large number of factors that influence search engine results, and in particular, Google. It is widely believed that your domain age can have an overall bearing on the performance of your website through search engines.
Domain Age Explained
Domain age is generally determined by the length of time that your domain has been registered for in the eyes of the search engine. However, many believe that there are two key factors in determining your domain age:
1 - The date your domain was first registered;
2 - The length of time your domain is registered for.
Domain Age and Registration
The first of these factors is largely out of your control as you can’t turn back time to register the domain at an earlier date. On the bright side however, is that the fact that your domain age will keep improving on a daily basis as long as you keep renewing your domain. It is perceived that major search engines such as Google will see domains that have been registered for extended periods of time as a commitment to that domain name. It basically highlights to Google that the domain is not going to be used as a spam site, or for other underhand tactics.
The second of these factors (length of time your domain is registered) is again an indicator to search engines (Google) that you’re serious about the domain name, and are therefore perceived as a reputable and creditable company. It is strongly suggested by SEO professionals that you should register your domain for long periods of time as this will provide some added value when it comes to ranking positions.
