How Can Hosting Affect Your SEO?

Many people do not realise the relationship that exists between certain online services and activities.  The relationship between web hosting and SEO would be the perfect example of this. While experienced webmasters and SEO professionals will be well aware of how they are linked, those who are new to website management and SEO probably aren’t. Consequently, many people find themselves taking out web hosting without thinking about SEO, only to learn of their mistakes later.

How can hosting affect your SEO?

Limited Design

If you only have a limited amount of power from your web server there’s only so much you’re going to be able to do in terms of the design of your website. Web design is another of those pesky things that is linked to SEO! Bad hosting often means limited design, which then means you aren’t giving your SEO the best foundation to succeed.

In contrast, if you have a powerful server you have many more web design possibilities that you can take advantage of.

Website Size & Content

The more pages and content you have on your website, the more there is for Google to index, and the higher visibility you will have in search engine results. While we’re by no means saying you should have content just for the sake of it, you stand a better chance of succeeding if you can have a high number of blogs, resources, and other pages on your site.

The types of content you can use will be severely limited by a poor server, too. Content marketing is a key aspect of being successful online, but it is not all about producing written copy. If your hosting service doesn’t allow you to feature videos, animations, infographics, pictures, and other visual content on your website, you are immediately behind your competitors that are using these.

User Experience & Speed

User experience is a huge factor in Google’s search algorithm, and a bad host means a bad user experience. The biggest area of influence is usually on the website speed. If a website is slow, Google won’t hang around and wait for it to load, and nor will your human browsers. Google then won’t rank your site highly, which then affects your visibility.

Another problem is if your pages don’t fully load. You might get away with this with some users, but if a particular plugin or widget takes forever to load, people will simply stop using your website.

Ensure your hosting is the best it possibly can be so you avoid SEO errors later. The last thing you want is to invest heavily in SEO services only to see it undermined by weak hosting.
