How to Build Blogger Relationships

Building relationships with bloggers is likely to be a crucial part of your link building strategy and it can help you in other areas, too.  What are the best ways to go about it?

Respond to Comments on Your Own Blog

A high percentage of people who comment on blogs have blogs themselves. We’re talking about genuine blog commenters here, not those who simply write nonsense like “Thank you for the great information” just to try to get through your spam filter and build a link.

By engaging in conversation with them you’ll start to build a rapport and trust. If you read their blog and like what you see, you might even invite them to create a guest blog post for your platform, which will help you with your content marketing strategy.

Comment on Industry Blogs

You have taken the time to respond to your own blog comments, so you should look to take your viewpoint and expertise to other industry blogs. Here, it is worth planning the blogs that you are going to target, as you are more likely to receive replies and build a relationship with bloggers that have a few followers and don’t have many comments to moderate and deal with. As your name becomes better known, you can start looking at the bigger blogs and earning more connections this way.

While having a strong network within your industry is a huge benefit in itself, ideally here you’re looking to be invited to post content on other blogs that will drive traffic to your site.

Give Away Compelling Content

We’re talking about things that could be turned into compelling content with this point. In particular, we’re thinking about original research and any case studies that you might have on your site. If you approach a blogger and offer them something that could help them produce a high quality piece of work for their own website, in return for a link back to your site, then you’re onto a winner.

When you do this, a blogger is more likely to look at the rest of your site in future and link to your site more.

Give Away Links

Linking to blogs in your own content will pay dividends over time, as even if the blogger doesn’t become a contact, they’ll see that you have linked to them and start linking back to you, giving you a mutually beneficial blogger relationship without you doing anything out of the ordinary.

Make the most of your blogger relationships and you’ll find link building turns to link earning quicker than you believed possible.
