How to Earn Authoritative Links

Every website owner wants the biggest number of high quality, authoritative links possible.  When we say authoritative links, we’re not just talking about those that rank highly with PageRank or Moz Bar, but specifically about links from .gov, .edu, .org domains, and other similar sites from country specific domains - .ac.uk for educational institutions in the United Kingdom, for example.

These links are like gold dust; not only do they give your own site a great endorsement from the referral site, you’ll pick up loads of relevant traffic and probably some excellent customers and clients, too.

Due to the sheer number of sites using these authoritative domains and the different areas in which they operate, there are several ways to earn links from them. Here are some that could work for you.

Launch a Wikipedia Page

Although Wikipedia links are “nofollow” from an SEO perspective, the potential for gaining traffic from people who find your Wikipedia page is tremendous.

However, you need to have a range of sources before you launch a Wikipedia page, so it helps if your company has featured in the news (even via a press release you have written yourself) as you won’t get away with just creating an article and having it referenced by your About Us pages or others on your website.

Try to link to your page from other articles, to increase the visibility of your own page.

Write for Educational Institutions

Whatever your industry, it is likely you will be able to relate it to education in some way. Even if all you do is write a 1,000 word article about finding intern work placements in your industry, if it features on a University website and you can create a relevant link to your own site, you’re in business.

A more productive approach might be to try and get a contract to create education related content, such as a course, and provide advice and guidance through the website, as this will give you the opportunity to create content on a regular basis.

Perform Authoritative Website Outreach

This may take the most time (particularly as you want to avoid blatant temple based emails) but could earn you the most links. Focus on creating high quality content for your own website and then show authoritative websites that it’s there, if it may be relevant to them.

You might only see a 1% success rate, but if you reach out to 1,000 sites that gives you 10 high quality, authoritative links that are probably going to have much more of an impact than the links you have from lower quality sites right now.
