How to Plan Your SEO Strategy for 2014
Now that we’re into 2014 you should have already started putting together your SEO strategy and be thinking about putting it into action. However, we understand that businesses can often find themselves time poor and not being able to carry out the level of planning they might like to. At the same time, we know some businesses don’t like planning their SEO strategy too far in advance because of how fast changing and dynamic the digital marketing industry is. We also understand that frustration and perspective, but the truth is that to be successful you need to have some sort of plan in place.
While you might not be able to say at this stage specifically what you’ll be doing and when, there are some strategy elements you should have in mind.
Although it is inevitable some things are going to change in 2014, the importance of content is not going to be one of them. Make sure you are aware of what constitutes high quality content and understand how you can produce this on your website on a consistent basis. If you need to outsource content creation, then we highly recommend you do so, as it could be the difference between quality getting you to the top of Google or a lack of quality not taking you forward at all.
Your Approach to Link Building
There are many ways to build links, and how you do it in 2014 is likely to be key to your success. You need to be looking to earn links as much as possible while also recognising that traditional link building activities such as guest posting are still going to be necessary.
It is also worth trying things a little different, such as setting up Google Alerts for your brand name or targeted keywords. Could you get in touch with the author when these appear and ask for a link if one hasn’t been given? It’s worth a try as these links will all be “natural” to Google.
Use of Schema.org Mark-Ups
Using Schema.org mark-up is an SEO “must do” this year. If you aren’t doing it, then you’ll get left behind as the search engines continue to look for the best ways to put the most relevant results within all categories on page one. Get an experienced developer on-board and make this happen as a quick win; no need for this to be an on-going task – use a content management system that offers schema plugins, too.
